How To Take Care Of Baby Betta Fish? | Tips For Better Growth

Baby Bettas need more attention than adult Bettas. A Betta Fry is difficult to raise because it is in the growing phase.

Every day is crucial for them. From breeding to feeding, tank environment, and water parameters, every aspect should be near perfection to keep your Betta thriving.

What Points To Consider When Buying A Baby Betta Fish?

The first point to consider is the reputation of the pet store selling Betta fish. A good breeder will take care of all the parameters properly.

When you go to a pet store, look for a Betta fish that is at least 7 weeks old. Most pet stores hand over baby Bettas in a cup.

Take a deeper look at the tank it was kept. If too many dead fish inside already, don’t buy from that pet store.

Check the water condition in which it is given to you. Also, check how much active the Fry is when handed over to you.

What Are The Tank Requirements For Baby Betta Fish?

The following are the important aquatic instructions for a healthy growth of baby Betta fish.

Tank Size

5 gallon Tank size to keep baby betta fish.

An ideal size for a baby Betta tank is 2.5 to 5 gallons with an 8-inch depth. The tank should neither be big nor small. A small tank will stunt their growth, while a large tank will cause stress.

Water Temperature

The requirements for Baby Betta water temperature are higher than those of the adult Betta species. It is better to keep the temperature between 76 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Substrate

Only gravel and sand are allowed as substrates for the baby Betta tank fish. Avoid adding large rocks, as there is a chance that the Betta Fry will get stuck under them.

Water Cleaning

Baby Bettas eat a lot. As a result, they frequently pass out poop in the tank. You need to ensure that water is clean most of the time. Water changes should be gentle.

Filter usage is allowed to clean the water in aquariums, but it is better to use a sponge filter. A high-profile filter causes a strong current, and your Betta Fry might get sucked up.

How To Feed Baby Betta Fish?

Bettas are carnivorous, so you need to start with live foods that are rich in proteins. Live foods include freeze dried tubifex worms, grindal worms, white worms, mosquito larvae, brine shrimp, and daphnia. You can also try crushed miniature pellet treats to provide essential nutrients.

Baby Betta’s diet is not easily satisfied. You need to feed it many times a day. Scheduling it for 2 times a day is a good way to start feeding, but it all depends on the baby Betta.

Can Baby Bettas Kept Together?

Yes, baby Bettas can live together, but not for very long. After 9 weeks of age, Bettas start displaying their tropical behavior. It is better to separate them at an earlier stage.

It should be avoided as long as tank mates other than Betta kind are concerned. If you still keep tank mates, keep an eye on them. When they start showing aggression, it’s time to separate them.
